    I wonder if there is an identifiable, involuntary “Devotio Postmoderna” phenomenon.

      Isn’t it’s funny that it should be Frenchmen who should be the ones talking sense on this (Delatte and Lahitton who was referenced in the comments to which you linked)? I wouldn’t have expected that the most common-sense approach to vocation would come from the country which gave us both Jansenism and Quietism…
