First Volume of Translation of St. Thomas’s Commentary on the Sentences Online

The first volume of the Aquinas Institute for the Study of Sacred Doctrine’s  long awaited translation of St. Thomas’s first major theological work, the Commentary on the Sentences, is here. And the have put the whole text online! Praise God!

Even among pious Catholics, almost no one realizes the massive influence that the _Sentences_ had in all of the subsequent history of the West — even to the point of driving the various Reformations as the various positions enumerated in the _Sentences_, and the various successive attempts (in the form of commentaries on the _Sentences_) at resolving the tensions within the tradition that it raised to the surface, were eventually found by Christians not to hold together.   2. Actually, St. Thomas’ commentary on Isaiah, the *Expositio super Isaiam ad Litteram* was his first theological work, written even before his commentary on the sentences!
